Bullying or Terrorism?

Since my last blog post on the subject of bullying, I have continued to contemplate. While, initially, the publicized bullying victims were those who had either declared themselves as “gay” or had been presumed or accused as such, it has unfortunately also spread to others as well. Bullying does not play favorites. Bullying victimizes anyone perceived to be weaker than the bully. In my opinion, bullying is equal to that of terrorism, for it uses the same tactics: violence and threats to intimidate or coerce. It seems as though we as Americans are fighting this battle on our own soil as well as abroad. Even worse, the terrorism within our public school system doesn’t use guns or bullets, but hateful words which many consider their expression to be protected by freedom of speech.
